First try at Sultan's Delight

Friday I bought two huge eggplants. What did I decide to do with them? Leave it to me to make the most complicated dish I could imagine. A couple months back I had been introduced to Sultan's Delight in Boston with my Turkish friend Selin!

After a couple of HOURS, yes hours, it was finally done. We ate it out on the deck in Jamestown, RI overlooking the bay during sunset. The view was fabulous and so was the dish!!! I was so surprised how wonderful it came out.

Marine Week - Boston 2010

After a weekend of promotions and a two day escape to Rhode Island, we went on a walk to Copley and Boston Commons to discover that it was Marine Week. What's Marine Week? Well it was pretty freakin cool. There was military equipment on public display including an Osprey harrier, black hawk helicopter, tanks, mortars, bunker recreations and even attack dog demos. Great PR move boys.

This past weekend I was promoting Nothing But Nets, a global grassroots campaign raising awareness and funding around Malaria in developing countries, particularly those in Africa. Nothing But Nets distributes bed nets that are woven with the insecticide to prevent the spread of the disease. Check out their campaign on their website @ NothingButNets.net, send a net to save a life!

We will be showcasing Portuguese Culture + our Club at the NU CALLS Gala, April 2 @ the Cabral Center! We are working on putting together capoeira / fado singing / travel slideshow. If you are interested in helping us plan this event, please contact us via email :) If you know someone that would be interested in performing, that would be super fantastic as we will be asking Berklee students if they will be willing to participate with us.

Also, BU Brazilian Club is hosting a capoeira workshop on March 27th between 6:30-7:30 pm. If you are interested in attending, please contact Christelle as she will be attending! :) There are also Capoeira classes here @ NEU's Squahsbusters Mondays and Fridays.

Azores (Paid) Internships!!!

I was at the Boston Portuguese Consulate last Thursday and found about this really sweet program for those of you with heritage in the Azores.

It specifically says for Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, and Communications majors, and it is sponsored by the government. They just did a press release in Portugal releasing the program on March 5, and they seemed really excited about it... YOU SHOULD BE TOO. It's specifically for bringing American students or recent graduates to the Azores. They are offering 2 or 6 month internships (Great co-op opportunity!).

I have messaged this information to the international coop office and will be contacting the appropriate people at the embassy abroad to find out more information on applying for this program.

Remember- they are accepting up to 4th generations, so take advantage of this awesome program if you can!!!

Meeting with SAB + Portuguese Consulate Update

The meeting with SAB went really well tonight :) Thanks to everyone who was able to make it: Christelle, Michaila, Akash, Jason, Simone, Mike! Great job! We will be hearing back from the Student Affairs board within 5 business days regarding Official Recognition.

On other news - we met with the Portuguese Consulate today and had some great discussions. We might be able to have the photo exhibition here at Northeastern! There are also some great opportunities for those of you with up to 4th generation Azorian descen that we will be discussing at this week's meeting. Don't forget, free Brazilian food this Sunday at the City of God movie hosted by NUCALLS + Portuguese Culture Club! I hope to see you all there!

Hope everyone had a fabulous spring break. We will not be having a meeting tonight, instead we will have one next Wednesday. I will post the location as soon as I find out.

Today I spoke with a chair from the Student Affairs Board and we (e-board reps) will be meeting with them next Thursday between 7:00pm - 8:30 to propose our Constitution, etc.
